The Liberty

AFI short narrative thesis film, written and directed by Jill Sachs

The Liberty

When their family's classic movie palace is threatened, a whimsical father throws a grand show to save it, while his daughter struggles to save him. Inspired by Frank Capra films of yore, and the impossible dreams of my own father, The Liberty is a meditation on obsolesence and navigating love amid a fading world.

I wrote and directed ‘The Liberty’ as my thesis film at the American Film Institute. It premiered at the Ashland Independent Film Festival, and went on to win Best Drama Short at Coney Island Film Festival, and Best US Short at Cindependent.
